Hi guys,

With winter fast approaching time outside with decent light is going to be very rare so i thought 'why not get a close up filter and start to play about indoors?' So i bought a cokin 4x for my 28-135 is to play with.

These are my first attempts....boy is it hard to get that focus just right. If i move only mm forward or backward from the subject the focus has gone. How do you guys do it, especially with wildlife? Is it normal for the focus to be so sensitive?

Please tell me what you think and give me some advice.....boy do i need it!

Many thanks

Actually I think that the second one is pretty good. I like the subject matter. The subject matter in the first one really doesn't do anything for me.

Macro work can be very unforgiving. Yes, moving just a mere millimeter or two can blow your focus. Try and keep your f-stop as high as possible. A tripod is almost a must in macro photography.

You are right the frames are very distracting and take away from the image.

I really like the second one. Like you said, the frame needs to go. But the focus and DOF look great to me. What kind of plant is that, anyway?
