I think it was TQ who said that he uses drag & drop to transfer his photos to the PC. I would like to do the same. However, the cam makes two folders in the CF card, one for the photos the other for some other files. So I was wondering if 1- one needs to transfer both contents of the folders. 2- do they have to be in the same structure (i.e as they are in the CF card) or can they be transfered to the same folder.

Thanks

All you need to do is drill down into the different folders and select all (or whatever you desire) the JPEG, CRW + THM, and/or CR2 files and D&D them into your own folder on the PC.

BTW, if the folder contains images, it will only contain images so you won't have to worry about weeding out any non-image files out of the folder.

If you would rather copy the entire folder in the CF card over to the PC, just copy the folders that have image files in them .

The structure in the CF card is set up for the benefit of the camera itself. It ispratically meanless in the PC so you don't have to keep the same directory structure on the PC. You can set up your folders anyway you wish to organize your image files.

Thanks PacAce, that cleared things up.

Just out of curiosity, do you know what the "other files" are for. I think I read somewhere that they control the orientation of the photo, among other things (I could be totally wrong though).

Thanks again for the help.

I know that the other files are used by the camera for something but I'm not sure exactly what. But I don't think it's for image orientation because that "bit" of info is stored in the image file itself.

I think the CANONMSC folder stores, among other things, whether a photo's been downloaded from the camera or not (via ZB or EOS Viewer).

Yeah and what a pain in the neck if you want to download the images again. It won't let you. I found that out the hard way when I was showing someone how to use the software that came with a Canon P&S camera she had bought. I downloaded the pics to a junk folder as a test and when I was ready to move the pics to the folder where she wanted them, I couldn't. You should have seen the embarassed look on my face. Good thing I had my card reader along with me to get me out of the embarassng mess.
