Hey folks, I have a rather simple question but couldnt find anything related to it in the search so decided to ask.
I have a friend who (btw is converting from Nikon to Canon thanks to me, yay) is interested in buying a 20D and we were wondering if its possible to finance one through somewhere like Best buy or Circuit City locally? Reason i ask is, shes an incredible photographer, she uses older film cameras and has a small P&S camera but has been wanting to make the leap into DSLR for a long time. Problem is, that amount of money is not readily available and wont be for some time. I would love to help her out, so I've been researching places where you can apply for store credit or something and finance a purchase. Specifically Best Buy or something like that with a well known name and policy.
Is this a good idea? Specifically is it a better idea than waiting 3-4 months before its affordable? Furthermore, is it a good idea for someone who only has borderline decent credit? Thanks in advance folks.

Best Buy has an interest-free option when you apply for their credit card. I bought a computer that way and it was cheaper than a 20D. So, if the dollar amount is the trigger for interest-free, you should be okay.
I think you get over six months interest free, so that may be enough time to pay it off. Ask for cash for Christmas and/or other gifts and you may be there.
Have Fun,

Hey .. if he's a Nikon Convert then we should all chip in
Seriously.. although Best Buy is not me favorite place to shop.. it and store like it would seem a logical alternative to a Credit Card.

I too did that, that is how i got my Drebel. I had 12 months to pay off $1000 i made a payment of $500 then $100 a month until it was gone. I hardly noticed i paid for it. It was fantastic.

One thing to remember about those 12 month no payment no interest plans, check and make sure it's non-accrued. Best Buy is. Meaning, that after the 12 month period if there is a balance owing you have to cough up the interest on the entire purchase price. Future Shop has a non-accrued 12 month no payment no interest plan. If after 12 months there is a balance owing, you just continue to make you monthly payments with interest charges on your existing balance.
SO BE VERY CAREFUL!

Hi, I'm Jon, and I'd like to abandon my misspent Nikon youth and come over to the Canon Side. Can you people help me?
Jon
who really does have a Nikonos and a N*kon P&S picked up when he'd forgotten a camera for Comdex (RIP).

Best Buy is offering 18 months to pay with no interest. So if she buys $2000 worth of gear then it will only cost her $111.11 per month. Not bad. Just make all of your payments on time and you won't get hit with the accrual.
Amazon gives you 6 months free on their credit card.

I'd be very serprised if they had a 20D. Last time I looked, they only carried the 300D and D70.

I actually havnt been since the 20D was announced but my local had 300D 10D and D70.
So if they sold all their 10D's then they may have the 20D in stock.
