I got it from eBay, said to be a cokin CPL filter, i found out this one has an adapter ring for Cokin filter holder on it (with the word France), but the filter itself doesn't have any kind of information... it is thick, heavy and very well built.
please help me out with this, if it's a bad one i will probably return it to the seller. currently have no lens to test it, my cousin took all the stuffs to vacation.

You can test it to see if it "polarizes" like it's supposed to...the Cokin Z-Pro (or some other square filter holder) goes on the larger outside ring.
Here's the link to the Z-Pro holder...notice the text says "adapter ring required" but you already have one.

Edit: you can test it's polarizing abilities by pointing the filter 90 degrees to the sun and looking thru it. Turn the filter to get differing amounts of polarization.

Yeah it does look like a Cokin Polariser filter indeed.
Though I have a feeling that's P size not Z-Pro

yes, it does the job of polarizing, but i'm just not sure which brand and model is it... my friends say that cokin filter's suppose to have their name on it . i dont wanna pay my money for a china or fake filter..
so i can use the adapter ring for other lenses too, can't i?

To be honest I have never seen a Cokin polarizer that looks quite like that, they normally have groove like teeth around the outside edge and no thread

And yes with the Cokin system, you buy a filter holder and then get the relevant sized adapter ring for the different thread sizes of your lenses.

What it appears you have is a 77mm threaded ring for a Cokin P-Series filter holder and an odd polarizer of the same diameter. The threaded ring is designed to thread into the filter threads of a lens with a 77mm thread (such as the Canon 100-400) and then the filter holder is slipped over it.
The fact that there are threads on both sides of the filter itself indicates it's a normal screw-in polarizer and not one designed for the Cokin-style holders. A good way to tell is if the filter will rotate independently of the threads. If the seller represented this as a Cokin polarizer, then he was either sadly mistaken or has sold you a bill of goods. You might want to think about returning it...

After looking at my Z-Pro ring...I agree that yours is a P-size ring. Good luck!

Looks to me like a generic CPL with an adapter to make it fit in a Cokin P holder, as John noted.
Why lick it?

The adapter wouldn't allow it to fit in a P holder however as that adapter is to attach the holder to the lens.

yeah, i know that. it's the screw in CPL filter just like any other ones, not to use in the holder.
i just don't know what brand of filter is it... because it feels very good on my hands, i don't think it's a bad one.... it's heavy and solid just like my B+W filter.

If it doesn't have any markings on it then it's unidentified CPL, but probably not a good one. I'd return the whole purchase and get a quality CPL.

Assuming you didn't pay too much for it you could just use it and see if it works well. If it does, then why not just keep it?

The all important question still wasn't answered by the OP though ;)
