View Full Version : A different technique for me and waterfalls, please have a look!

This is a new method for me- a really long exposure in almost-dark conditions. I figured the waterfall would just turn to haze, but there's actually some detail there, and the 10sec exposure smoothed the pool's water out. There seems to be a bit of a blurry, funny look to stuff at the top of the waterfall, I'm not sure if that's a result of camera shake or what- but the well-lit rock isn't blurry, so maybe it's something else.

I've intentionally under-exposed- I like the dark and brooding outsides compared to the white of the waterfall.

Please- let me know what you think? Too long an exposure? Wait for more light? Anything and and everything- let fly the slings and arrows of outrageous critique!

Taken with the tripod (and my backside) in the water. 30D, 24-105, tripod, timer release.

Manual Ex, Tv 10sec, Av 9, ISO 200, 24mm, Auto WB

Nothing at all? Not an "I like it" or "try and drop your gear into the water next time?"

i dig it. i'm a sucker for long exposures when it comes to water.

personally though, i think i'd crop out the foreground water. it just looks muddy and takes away from the water falling, which might be slightly overexposed but potato-potahto. It looks good.

what captures my attention in the photo is the middle of the photo. that's where the colors seem to be at their best and the most interesting. you've definitely found a cool place to try new things. :)

you did a great job not blowing out the water- that is hard to do - the crop suggestion in good to - did you use GND filters or Polarizer? what ever your time of day was made a hard shot great -

What's not to like? The long exposure gave you plenty of light, you have great colors in the rocks, waterfall is the color of cream, and the lake has a silken look.

I liked it before and I still like what you have done this time.

But, my curiosity wants to see a wider shot of the scene. Is there more that would complement what you have shown.

PS-humor yourself and do a B&W conversion on this image, you will be pleasantly surprised.
