So I am getting a new 40D (yeah, after saving for months). And I need to decide on which CF card to buy.

I'm down for SanDisk but they have at least 3 types: the old Ultra II, the popular Extreme III and the new Extreme IV. The main differences are speeds. However, I'm trying to be a bit realistic here. How fast should the card be to be able to keep up with the continuous 6.5fps on raw images of the 40D? Will the Ultra II work? or I need Extreme III or IV? There are a big difference in price, and that's why I ask.

Thank you,

Jon

E III isn't much more than the U II and SanDisk's got a rebate running on the E III at photo stores, in the US at least.

yeah, get it. EIII is enough, EIV is a waste since your 40D can't write that fast (40mb/s)

If the price is right go with IV. III is more than enough but the way prices are dropping so fast that at this point, although your camera won't utilize the IV speeds, your computer transfer will. So the faster is always better.

EIV is good for dumping files onto your computer quick, but you need Sandisk's high speed reader. Another $50.

Go to newegg.com and look at the Transcend cards. I have a bunch of them and never have had a problem. I really like the red one that is 133x speed. They are realy cheap as well. Best price I have found anyway. Shipping is very fast also.
