This may be a bit of an odd question, but I have the monopod listed below, and I've seen a bunch of pro shooters at golf tournaments, football games, etc. with a "Canon" wrapper around their monopods. It adds some padding and is usually red.

Where can you find those? Is something like this (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/121451-REG/Lightware_MP100_Monopod_Leg_Pad.html) good? What do y'all wrap around your monopods to make them a bit more comfortable for carrying (over your shoulder)?

P.S. I tried to find a picture of the Canon one. It's in that famous "sports" ad showing all those white lenses on the sidelines.

Yeah I've seen one in the ad, I'm guessing you have to get them from Canon because it would not only protect your shoulder, but make you a walking billboard as well (not that your big white lenses don't already:-))

I use the Op/Tech tripod leg covers on my tripod to cushion the legs when carring over my shoulder. They really do help and they are plain black. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/118308-REG/Op_Tech_USA_6601322_1_1_2_Tripod_Leg_Wraps.html or http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/118306-REG/Op_Tech_USA_6601312_1_1_4_Tripod_Leg_Wraps.html

you can get seat belt pads, here i got a bunch of MOMO (Racing Car Seats) pads, removed the momo stitching and its just a black pad, wrapped it around the monopod and BAM instant cushion

Something else you can use is the pre-split foam pipe insulation available at any home center or hardware store.

Yeah that's the plan. I'll just make a fabric wrapper with velcro or snaps to go around it to make sure it doesn't fall off or slide around too much.

Actually I think it goes consumers will by anything won't they?
Companies do not sell items they do not think people will buy. As long as they continue to sell, they will provide them.

They are normally issued to CPS members from CPS reps. I've seen them going on ebay a few times but at very high prices.

The same goes for the Canon rain covers, they are given out free but I've seen them sold for $50 each.

My Gitzo GM3550 came with a cushioned type wrap so I'm surprised your's didn't. Or is that stock Gitzo cover too dense?

Yeah, describing the built-in thing as "padding" doesn't quite seem fair. It's more like a rubberized coating more than foam. "Soft" is not a good word either. :-) I think it's on there more for durability.

Yes, I would agree, it's not really padding. In addition to it protecting the tube, I think it is a pretty good gripping surface. I can't imagine holding the thing on the bare carbon fiber which is relatively slippery.
