So i have been searching for a GPS for my car over the past few days and I have narrowed it down to two different models. I am looking at either the Magellan Maestro 3250 with a 3.5 inch square screen for $260, or a Maestro 4250 with a 4.3 inch widescreen for $330.

Which direction would you lean? I am thinking that the widescreen may actually be TOO big, but I don't wanna jump to buying anything just yet.

Nah, I had a TomTom GO720 (way better than the maestros, btw) and the widescreen is beautiful. Gives you room for menus and info without cramping the view of the map/route.

Check that 720, though. I saw them at Sam's Club for $299 a few days ago. Bluetooth, FM transmitter, 2gigs, mp3 player, photo viewer, SD slot, etc. Really nice.

I have always had TomTom but that is in the UK and at the end of the day it comes down to maps. I don't see how widescreen would help. It is pretty easy and clear to follow on my PDA and would be even easier using a standalone model. I suppose it depends on the price. I wouldn't pay more than £20/$40 or so for widescreen. Who knows ... it is your money? Either will do the job with no hassle.

I've got a Garmin 2720 and it's got a rectangular screen. I never thought of it as widescreen before but I suppose it qualifies.

Not sure about the square screens but I don't see how you could have as much viewable map area, especially if you've got other windows of info displayed.

Yes I would pay the extra dough for the 4.3. Believe me, it won't be too big. You'd regret not having the larger screen. Think of it as you did IS for your 70-200. :)
