tell me if this flash will fire times in a row when the camera is in continuous mode? I guess what I am asking is will there be any down time for the flash to recharge before it fires again?

According to the Sigma specs, the recharge time is 6 seconds for alkaline batteries, and 4 seconds for Ni-mh.

I have that flash and it really depends on the power output. If you only need to use it at minimal power such as in fill, you can sometimes get away with a couple of shots in a row but as Belmondo said it does need time to recycle.

It is a bit faster than the 550 ex but less consistent in its output (very slightly).
I use it with a 10d (sold the rebel a while ago) and a 20d and it gets up again with higher ISO, slower shutter and wider aperture. If you shoot @ f8 in a dark room with 1/60th and ISO 100, it will take about 8 secs. If you shoot @ f2.8 in adark room with 1/30th and ISO 800 it will take about a 1/4 sec on full NiMh batts.
That's about what I get.

If you want very quick recycle times, you need an external high voltage battery pack, like a Quantum Turbo or TurboZ.
