difference in a 300D? I was thinking of buying a 1GB 40X or 80X card, but then someone told me that I would be wasting my money if I was going to be using the card in a 300D, is that true? and what is the optium speed flash card for the 300D?

Nah...the 300D (Dreb) isn't built to take advantage of the fast CF cards.

There will be no noticable difference in a 300D when using a 8x card, or an 80x card.
But, if you can get a good price, the faster card will help when uploading to your computer if you have a USB2.0 card reader. It's also good to have if you upgrade cameras frequently.

- Once again, drisley makes a great point.

Rob Galbraith concludes that the Drebel will benefit from faster cards, but they will not perform up to their full capability.

That is, a Sandisk Extreme will allow the writes to happen faster than a normal Sandisk card, but not the amount of difference that the card speed suggests.

Yes, Rob Galbraith's tests show some cards are faster, but only marginally on a 300D or 10D. There is only a 20% speed differential between the top 30-40 cards on the list. I think that list is more what cards to avoid on the 300d. The rest are about the same.

Again, like Drisley said, if your computer has USB 2.0 and you can go for the $20-$30 for a 2.0 reader, then go for it. The cards are not that much more expensive now than their older, slower counterparts, and with the faster reader you will be able to offload an entire 1Gb card in under 2 minutes, compared with maybe 15-20 minutes or more with a slower card and a 1.0 reader.

That's a good point, and one I'm planning to apply. You will neve know when your next cam will be, it could b sooner than you expected.
