I’m looking for a tripod to use with my new Canon G1. It will need some way of leveling the head (A.K.A. Water Level Indicator) and degree makers (like a mark on the base of the head every 10 or 15 degrees). It also needs to be able to swivel the camera from landscape to portrait. If you have not figured it out yet, I want to use it for a bunch of series of shots for panoramic QuickTime VRs, among other things.

The key to your search is actually in the tripod head.
Bogen imports the Model 3410 that should meet your requirements quite well here's the URL:

I prefer tubular tripod legs over the more usual U-channel shaped legs. I also look for supports that go from the center column to each leg. One such model is the Davis & Sanford Super Brace tripod info is here:
