What is the forums view on Adorama in NY? Are they fast and reliable etc? Their prices seem roughly comparable...
See, its about using my card. I get all the advantages of 90days cover plus I don't take the hit for a month or more.
I know B and H is the preferred choice, but you will have seen my other post on their credit card policies!
Wiring is my last resort as insurance cover, the 90days returns policy and not paying off the card for 40days are all considerations here.

About as fast as B&H.. I actually prefer them over B&H myself. They're a good reputable company, you should have no problems.

I've made two major purchases through Adorama, and both went relatively well. The only complaint I have is that in both instances I was emailed with a request to call them. The first time they tried to sell me some filters, etc. The second time was to discuss a legitimate issue with my order, but they again used the opportunity to try to sell filters and warranties. In neither case would I describe the conversation as pushy, however ... they asked the question, I declined and they accepted my answer. Overall, I don't have a problem with recommending them.

I thought only companies with underprced items used this tactic... Adorama is far from underpriced....

They royally suck and are some of the rudest people on earth. I ordered a lens that was in stock from them in the summer. The website said it was in stock, the guy in the said it was instock, I placed the order asap, paid for 2 day delivery or something like that and he said it'll ship the next day. It didn't.. I called and asked why, no on knew, this went on for over a week, the item was instock the entire time and they charged my credit card within 60 seconds of the order. 2 day shipping ended up taking about 2 weeks. No explanations from them, and very rude $%#$%$# when I was trying to figure out what was going on.

The difference is (I think - I've never tried them) that the underpriced operations won't sell you the underpriced items unless you agree to buy a bunch of the pricy accessories. When people don't agree to the extra purchases, they get rude and obnoxious, and usually won't sell the main intended item. Adorama did not apply that type of pressure. They simply discussed the possibility of needing filters or warranties, and then accepted my answer when I politely declined.

Following on from the B and H thing I wondered what if any problems folks had shipping to Europe or for that matter the ROW…
Are there other reputable companies in NY, (1 bad vote so far for Adorama), that will deal happily away from the US of A?
Have any guys outside of the USA dealt with 17Photo or Beachcamera and can attest to their hastle free service?

17 st Photo is the best IMO. They just don't have as much stuff as BH. I don't know about overseas though.

Adorama has always done fine by me. B&H also.

I have used Adorama for years--with film camera equipment and digital. All orders have been filled quickly and accurately. They had me call once when I mistakenly ordered an ultra-thin filter. The guy pointed out that I wouldn't be able to use a lens cap with it on and changed my order for me. Okay, he was a little brusk--"Why did you order ...?!" But I just said what's wrong with that (I didn't know about the cap issue) and he told me and then recommended a cheaper one. I guess the bruskness doesn't bother me so much--I work with several New Yorkers who talk that way. I guess I'm used to it.

I've bought several items from both Adorama and B&H and have never had a problem with either. I wouldn't have any problem recommending them.
Adorama has never sent me email asking me to call them or tried to get me to buy additional items, either. I just place my order and they ship it that day or the next.
