I want to start by taking some one light portraits on location. I will be ordering a background stand and some seamless tonight. I want to figure out my lighting though. If natural light is available I will try to use it, though I like the studio look at times. I am considering either using the Westcott 50x50 softbox for flashes with my 580 ex or buying a AB800 and foldable softbox. In the long run which is beter to invest the $$$ in, since funds are always tight:D. What other accessories would you recommend getting for my setup?

I like the fact that the ab800 has the modeling light because being a beginner I don't want to be fumbling at someone's home. Yet I already have the 580 ex even thought the 50x50 westcott is expensive.

The Alien Bees....you can adjust the lighting on the Bees. With the TD5 you can adjust some but I am still needing more power alot of the time...

I vote for the AB's also.. Much more control and better quality of light. I have both and there is no way I'd be using the speedlight in studio. I know it's a popular thing right now, but .....

You have to have a couple flashes, plus the ste2 to trigger it all.. so cost-wise, I don't think either is cheaper than the other.
