Ok, what is the difference? Standard Preview vs render 1:1 preview. When would either one be usefull?

I think it's just a matter of when you want to wait. While you're importing the images or when you want to view them. Hard drive space is another consideration. You can set 1:1 previews to be deleted after a specific time to free up space.

Standard previews are great for viewing at 'fit' size. If you have to zoom in, it then renders a 1:1 preview for that image.

1:1 preview is full size and means you don't have to wait for it to render when you zoom in.

1:1 preview also has your Noise Reduction and Sharpening settings applied, which Standard doesn't.

I'd always render Standard. I'd only render 1:1 if I wanted to zoom in Library module (not Develop, that looks at the original file)
