Hi there,

Some Superbike shots from last Saturday on the Island. That was qualifying day.

All taken with a Rebel Xti (or 400D as it is called where I come from) , 70-200 f4 is usm and 100ISO (wish I had less, some great light!).

Anyway, here are the pics, C&C welcome as usual:

I really like that second last one - great panning and composition... those colours seem to have quite a bit of pop.

Yeah, itwas a little bit overexposed and I had to play with contrast at a certain point...
Maybe too much
Could be corrected if it is too much ;)

That is my favourite as well, I like the lines but can't explain why... My family likes the last one more...

I like the 2nd one.

I been shooting motorcycles at f/4, but I guess I need to up it to like f/8 or something. Yours are very sharp and I have a Canon Rebel XT with a 70-200mm f/4 L and they arn't as sharp as yours.

Hi there, thx for your comments.

I was shooting in Tv mode, to control my panning work. I was quite surprised to see F18 for the first one on the Exif data.

Closing a little bit (F8 sounds good) should help in terms of sharpness, and is not really armfull if you're shooting outside and are lucky enough to have a sunny day.

Anyway, I have to add that I got a bunch of pictures not sharp or out of focus as well.

To practice my panning, I have trained with racehorses on a local racecourse (cheap entry and quick movements as well, this was a surprisingly good idea if there is no motorsport event and if one wants to train...)

I posted the results in the sports section few weeks ago

Bye

Wowee - fantastic shots. I like them all and wish 1) that I had been there and 2) that I had taken your shots.

Only just coming to grips with the panning myself and am practising at roundabouts because they are slow enough for me to keep up relatively smoothly!!

My favourites are probably 2 followed by 3 (influenced by the fact that I am Ducati girl:):D).

Sooooo, I am coming over for the Motogp again this year - which part of the track did you take them from? Sweeper onto the front straight?

I there!

Thx for your nice comments!

I have seen your bike in your previous posts and understand your preference for these shots ;)

As a french, I would go for #3, my countrymen are quite rare in that part of the world ...

Concerning the pictures, well, I have to say I had a "wake up issue" last saturday and was quite late on the Island (arrived around 10H30), so the spot I wanted to go to was already packed (turn 10, slow and sharp corner, as a spectator you're on the interior side, great for photo but well known....)
I tried some shots anyway but was not happy with the results (panning between two heads is not really funny) so decided to move.

#1, 2 and 3 were taken after turn 6 (called Siberia). In that spot you can stand on the side of the track, quite close to the action. The background is usually quite rubbish but if you pan and / or crop, you can hide it a little...

I had some good shots then and only posted the best (in my opinion) ones.

You can also have some good ones close to that over crowded spot I was talking before, if you pan from the corner exit up to the bridge. Once again the background is not great...

Finally, #4 and 5 were taken in the first corner (called Doohan corner). They are going really fast (on one shot I can read 208 on Haga's tacho ) but it gives good results and you're quite close to them...

And if you want some beautiful background for your pictures, I would recommand the straight just after that first corner, here is what I got there (not with the superbike but I like it):

I think I have listed all spots I like there. If I go to the MotoGp I'll let you know if you want.

Bye
