Hello to all,
I am new to photography. I have canon A570 IS. While reading the advanced camera user guide I found the topic on page 44 regarding SHOOTING HARD-TO-FOCUS SUBJECTS (Foucs Lock, AF Lock, Manual Focus, Safety MF).

What is Foucs Lock, AF Lock, Manual Facus and Safety MF?

Please can anyone explain these.

Big Thanks
Rakesh

First - congratulations; you're taking the most important first step anyone can with a new camera - you're reading the manual!!!

Focus Lock and AF Lock are both ways of "tricking" the camera into focusing correctly when it can't "see" your subject well enough to focus. You pick something else the same distance away that the camera can focus on and once you've focused on that, lock the focus while you re-aim the camera toward your subject. The only difference between the two as described in the manual is that AF Lock uses the "MF" (Manual Focus) button to lock focus while Focus Lock uses continued pressure on the shutter button. Manual Focus is when you, not the camera, decide that you've got the subject sharp. You do this by using the left and right arrows and the image on the camera's LCD. "Safety MF" is when you manually focus on the subject, but let the camera "fine tune" the focus, in case you're not sure you've actually got a sharp focus.

Come on Jon. You're taking all the sport out of this. How will we have those classic threads on Continuous High Speed Shooting if you keep encouraging people to read the manual?

But serious Rakesh, welcome, and thank you for reading the manual.
