This is the first game I got to really try out the 1DMIII and from the 450-550 shots I took I can say with confidence that if there's a focusing problem with these cameras, mine doesn't have it!! I had way more keepers with this one than I ever had with my 1DsMII. I was using my 300mm f/2.8 and standing between the dugout and the right fielder using a tripod. I couldn't be more pleased!! What do you all think?

Looks like you've got a great partner in that camera, Tom. Nice images.

I had had 300mm f2.8, I would have used it at f2.8. A different location for better bg would also help. Pictures are nice so your 1dMk3 seems to be working fine.

Home plate is pretty much home plate so a different location would have been pretty much the same. If I had shot down the third baseline it would have looked about like this. High school baseball.

I'd say no problems with the camera or the lens!

It looks like it is working great! The only thing i want to say is that you should not use a tripod on any playing surface (field, court, diamond, whatever) it is not safe for the players.

Great series, the first one cracks me up though, looks like he has no idea where the ball is and almost looks like he is WAY off on his bunt attempt and just completely missed it by a mile. Obviously thats not what happened, but it just makes me laugh.

Let me correct myself; I was using a monopod. Sorry!

Not necessarily. Getting higher or lower can drastically improve your backgrounds. Also, sometimes moving only a few feet one direction or the other can clean things up. You might consider moving to the other end of the dugout, too. I understand that home plate is almost always "busy", but a messy background can ruin an otherwise solid image. You can also add a 1.4X TC and shoot from center field.
At these settings: Lens (mm): 300; ISO: 200; Aperture: 4; Shutter: 1/2000; you have plenty of light, so why not shoot at f/2.8 to further reduce the DOF and help separate the subjects from the background? Bump your shutter speed up to 1/4000s.

Personally I would crop it much tighter, there seems to be way too much head room.
Awesome quality though.
Here's my crop of it, sorry to remove your watermark. I've never shot baseball, but I plan on it this season. With my experience in other sports it just seems that being closer would be better.
