Morning all,

So I'm on my way to class shortly, and I realized I want to take my camera on campus between classes today. For me right now, that would mean that I would have to take two backpacks, or just carry my 2 notebooks seperately with the camera bag on my back. It got me thinking that I would like to find a nice bag that I can put my limited amount of gear in, along with a notebook and maybe a textbook.

Anybody know if anything like that is made? I envision a normal mid-sized camera backpack with maybe a big zipper compartment behind the camera area that you could slip a book or two into.

Check out the bags intended for use with cameras+laptop then. Shove your books into the laptop compartment. Or arrange the dividers in a regular camera backpack to leave a large-enough compartment for your books. Or toss a couple of Domke (or other) inserts into a regular backpack to pad the camera stuff.

Check out the Burton Distortion backpack. It has a laptop compartment that can hold a few notebooks and the main compartment is big enough to a textbook and a camera with small lens. I use it with a Domke insert like Jon said. It's pretty cheap too.

I've been considering the UD 50 for the same purpose; plus some other ones too.

Lowepro Fastpack Series.
the 250 can hold a 15inch laptop and 350 hold a 17 inch laptop.

Plus there is general storage area in addition to camera storage area.

I've found the Lowepro Compudaypack very useful for the exact purpose. I can fit my laptop and camera/gear in seperate compartments, and the top general purpose compartment can easily fit a few textbooks.

Check it out:

I just picked up the Lowepro Stealth Reporter D650 AW for about $100 shipped. Almost a steal in my books. Carries a laptop, 300mm 2.8 lens, a body, a camcorder, iPod, etc. etc.

The top zipper and all weather features are what sealed the deal.

I was just in the same preciciment recently. I needed a backpack that would hold my school binders/books, laptop, 40D, 1-2 lenses and a flash. I checked out EVERYTHING, and they only thing that had a upper compartment big enough to fit a school binder was the LowePro CoumpRover AW. Binders either fit standing up (facing sideways) or facing down. Love it.

Another vote for the Zoom. Has a laptop compartment, other small zip pockest for pens/ wallets etc as well as a load of space for camera and lenses.

I couldn't fit my textbooks in the Adventure 9 top compartment. Then again, big camera kits can't fit in the Compudaypack...

I have a LowePro Stealth AW II. It's discontinued now, but its the perfect bag for a photojournalist like me who attends school. I have my laptop, some folders with school work, note pads and thats jsut the school stuff.

as for camera gear i carry a 1D, 17-40, 24-70, 70-200, 580EX, and misc batteries and media storage with me.

all in one bag. maybe i can get a photo posted sooner or later.
