Hello. Does anyone know why Im getting the BG to turn out black? My settings fr these pictures were ISO100, SS100, F10. I dont remember the flash settings.
This is my first focus stacked picture. It looks as if I tried to sharpen the picture too much. Is this just the nature of the beast?
What could improve this picture? Thanks for looking.

im not sure about the black BG, but i had some shots with dark backgrounds...somethin to do with the flash and shutter speed ,...i think.
a nice stack. good detail on the fly and the strange plant it is on.

black background is nornall caused my high fstops and high shutter speeds..and if u have nothing behind theres going to be nothing for the light to bounce back off so u get a black background.
when u stack theres no need to sharpen..:)great shot by the way

Hi,
Sometimes the dark backgrounds cant be avoided if there is nothing close behind the subject to reflect the light as MJ says. I dont mind the black background in this shot.
I usually use f5.6 to f11 depending on magnification, IS0100, 1/200 and flash with +1/3 or +2/3 FEC.
Combinezm adds its own sharpening during the stacking process. I sometimes add a small amount of USM to the images i resize for the web, but that is all.
The stack looks good, how many shots?

Hi,
flash with +1/3 or +2/3 FEC.
just thinking...that i sometimes adjust that , but usually to -1/3, if my shots are too bright...do you ever have to use negative FEC like that when using flash...?

with the xti delatechs shots where spot on..now hes using ythe 40d and he has to set it to -1/3.....u only have to set it to -1/3 or 2/3 if i am shooting with a black background..it tends to over expose..also if im shooting with white background i set +1/3- +1 fec.

thanks MJ...i will have to see next time im shooting , what the BG is looking like, and adjust as you explain here...that helps explain when to and which direction to go with the FEC controls.

yer lordv gave me that info..now i gave it to u..;) now im finding it bit easier to work out when there on a stick with nothing behind them.if i dont use minus fec it overexposes enough where the pic sucks.
