You might want to start looking here (http://skyandtelescope.com/observing/objects/eclipses/article_89_1.asp).

What's so special about this full moon, it looks normal to me.

There's going to be a total eclipse of the moon, by the earth as well as the (locally) clouds.

I'd like tips as well. I'll be using a tripod, Digital Rebel, 70-200 f/4L, and Sigma 2x teleconverter I borrowed from a friend. I attempted some shots last night, but I find manual focusing difficult (lose AF from the 2x). It looks very clear in the viewfinder when I take the picture after focusing, yet is a bit out of focus on the computer. Any tips?

P.S. Check this out: http://www.shaystephens.com/mooncalc.asp

I have taken moon shots with my 75-300mm and Tamron 2x teleconverter and have had the same issues. I beleive anytime a teleconverter is used that it diminishes the quality of the image. So I have found. Mind you, I have been able to do some editing in PS and the results were satisfactory. I'll definately be trying tonight.

Hm, you may be correct. I had never thought of that.

The conventional wisdom is that if you begin with a very sharp lens and then add a very sharp teleconverter, then you will get results with very little degradation. However, if you begin with a soft lens and then add a teleconverter, you will get messy results.

George Lepp once wrote an article that said that a good 1.4x teleconverter will degrade the sharpness by 10% and a good 2x teleconverter will degrade it by 20%. However, I don't know what kind of standard he used.

I do believe in "You don't get something for nothing."
