With an interest in Landscape Photography, I am now looking at add a Graduated Neutral Density Filter to my collection.

In speaking with several Photo Retailers in my area (including BH Photo), they have recommended the Tiffen Graduated Neutral Density, with Cokin P-Mount.

If anyone has had any experience with the Tiffen GND's, I would be interested in their thoughts?

From what I have always read, Tiffen is a step below say Lee or Singh-Ray in optical quality...but I could be wrong. I know the Tiffen is a glass filter.

For my first GND, would you recommed starting with the 0.6 or .0.9?

Thanks

I'd recommend a 2-stop soft and 3-stop hard filter. Can't say much about Tiffen, but I've been using Hitech grads. Like Lee and Singh Ray, they're made out a resin material. I prefer the resin since they won't break if you drop one (which I've done). Because they're resin, they also require less stringent packing whereas glass needs more care.

I use Singh Rays; haven't tried Tiffen's grads but their UV and polarizers aren't all that great FWIW
