I see Fuji's new S3 Pro comes with a feature allowing it to emulate film characteristics. Does anyone know what settings in a 20D might mimic the classic look of Kodachrome?

Your best bet is creating a photoshop action.

Your best bet is creating a photoshop action.

I think it's going to vary photo to photo. Thats the nice thing about digital photography.

I think sometimes people take it for granted. It's not even the costs of film, or the image quality of digital vs film (talk about a debate). The single most convient thing in my opinion about digital photograph is that you can "change your film" with each shot. Even after it's shot.

You want black and white? FINE DO IT!

Wnat a color version too? FINE DO IT!

Want to change ISO in the middle of a shoot? FINE DO IT!

So, what i'm saying is that for now just go out and shoot, any adjustments you want to be made can be done in photoshop.

Someone more experienced than me once described kodakchrome as a slightly 'pastel coloured' look which i tend to agree with. It's my favorite slide film :) .They also went onto describing how to emulate it in photoshop but i can't remember how it went...
something to do with slight desaturation = some other stuff.
Don't forget to add grain

Some film cameras can do mid-roll film change.

There are some other actions on the download page.

They're free. Why not download them and try.

And to answer your question directly, it works in PS CS in Windows XP Pro.

These will work on Mac and PC.
This is the first time I came across these particular plugins.
I am very impressed with all of them. The X-Process action is kewl...
I love that old slide look!
The Velvia actions are actually very good too!
He could easily charge $ for these actions, but I'm glad he doesn't

I agree but do not care much for the Tri-X action. Too grainy for me and I shot Tri-X @ 800 ASA (now ISO) during the 1970's. I may have to decompose the action and rebuild it to suit my tastes.

Help!

I've downloaded the plug-ins and saved them in my photoshop/plug-ins/filter folder. But they don't seem to accessible.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Ivan

Ivan, the actions must be saved into the PS Actions folder and then PS running, you have to right click on the Actions tab and click Add New Action. This will take you to the Actions Folder and then just click on the new action to install it.
