Just got an A75 as a second camera and find that an AC adaptor would will cost me about Can$80 at a Calgary store - why so much?
Surely all the adaptor has to do is deliver a smooth 4.3v DC to the camera? Radio Shack adaptors are a fraction of this price so would not one of them not work OK? If not, why not?

Economics. There isn't sufficient market for any particular AC adapter to warrant a third party manufacturer getting into the business, so Canon has that market virtually to itself. They can charge as much as they can get away with.

Canon charges $59.00 for a standard 6pin to 6 pin Firewire cable... the same cable that can be hade for $4.50 everywhere else.
It's these little "doo hickies" that seem to have the very highest mark up.. especially in the cases where you have no alternative (like the remote switch for a 10D )
