I'd trying to edit some photos that I took in RAW in the Canon EOS Utility. Then, I go into digital photo professional and "batch process" the photos to convert them to jpegs. For some reason, my editing doesn't carry over from EOS Utility to DPP. Any help is much appreciated.

is there a way to convert to jpeg in the EOS utility?

No. DPP is the program that Canon provides for Raw conversion. Get a card reader to down load your files, then convert in DPP.

You cannot edit RAW images in EOS Utility. That application has only two functions; downloading files to a computer via a usb connection and remote controlling the camera from a computer. Any editing of the images will be done in DPP, ZB/RIT or any one of two dozen third party converter-editors.

It is possible he/she is talking about the Canon Eos Viewer utility.

At the moment I prefer to use that rather than the DPP software to make the initial adjustments, and then use "Transfer Images" listed under the file menu to export as jpg and/or open in photoshop.

I considered that possibility, but since EOS Viewer Utility was phased out about three years ago and the OP lists a XTi, which would not be supported by EVU, in the signature, it seemed unlikely.

First off, I'm Richard. Secondly, bluewookie, I use the Zoom Browser EX to edit my RAW photos. I found a way last night to convert to jpegs by saving them in "RAW Image Task" but it took about an hour and a half at the very least to convert all of them. Is there an easier way?

Sorry Richard.

I've only tried using Eos Viewer Utility and DPP, both which came with my 20D, I've never seen the Zoom Browser EX. Anyway, I've never tried to batch process them, so I can't offer much help in that area.

How does everyone edit RAW photos and then convert them to jpegs?

By using a card reader and DPP.

Barring that ... downloading images (from the camera using USB and EOS Utility) into a folder on the computer and then accessing that computer folder with DPP.

Here is DPP .. just in case

I use Adobe Camera Raw with Photoshop CS3. If CS3 is more spendy than you want you can also look at Elements. I believe Lightroom also uses ACR.

Oh ... I also use a card reader. They're cheap and a much better option than connecting your camera to your computer.

I have CS3, but is there a way to look at and edit all of the pictures at once instead of having to open each image individually?

Use UFraw. Much better then the Canon software and its free. Will save either a 16 bit Tiff, photoshop, or jpeg.

Install the stand alone version if you don't use The Gimp. However, if you don't have lightroom or CS2 The Gimp works pretty well.
