I have continued my walk up the Canon evolutionary chain!

I started out with a G5 that I was perfectly content with. One day I tried to turn it on and the lens was stuck and it made a horrible grinding noise. I had purchased an extended warranty at BestBuy on it and when I went back in to exchange it for a new one, they had discontinued it. They offered me credit towards a new Pro1 if I paid the price difference. I also got to transfer my extended warranty to the new camera.

I loved the pictures that the Pro1 took outdoors but the horrible, and I mean horrible, focusing problems in low light quickly forced me to bring it back and exchange it for another one, thinking there was something wrong with it. The 2nd Pro1 was slightly better but still real bad in low light. I browsed around in the Canon forum a lot on this sight and realized that this was a common complaint about the camera.

Back to BestBuy to complain about it and they allowed me to swap it for a Digital Rebel for no charge (at the time they sold for the same amount). This solved all of the problems with low light focusing and very soon afterwards I purchased a 50mm prime and the 38-135mm IS lenses for it. All was well and I was pretty happy with the 300D. My only concern was that the 28-135 was not wide enough nor long enough for me so I began looking at picking up a 17-40L and a 70-200L.

This morning, I try to turn on my 300D and it is dead as a doornail. So, back to BestBuy. They offer me the choice of a new 300D or an equivalent camera, but I'd have to pay the difference it it was more expensive. I walk back to look at their current camera selection and low and behold - they now have 20Ds!!! So I pay the difference between the 300D and the 20D and here I am!

I must say, getting full credit for each camera exchange has been a God send. If I hadn't, I never would have started the path up the food chain. Of course, with the new lenses and that Bogen tripod I now am lusting after my wallet certainly would have been much happier!

Time to go flash the newest firmware and start playing with my new toy!

Well, not quite. Let's hope he has better luck with the 20D than with the other cameras.
Good luck! It's an awesome camera!

I am surprised Best Buy did not post a "wanted" picture of you at all their local stores and not let you in. :D

They seem to be going that way:

That's an interesting article. In this case, it's Canon's return policy that is why they allowed me to return all of the cameras. Some vendors have the stores send the cameras in for repair. In Canon's case, they just give the store credit for them so they don't lose anything by swapping out. In fact, they made money on me by my upgrading. Canon is the one who lost out.

Like I said, if they had repaired the cameras instead of trading them in, I'd still be blissfully ignorant with a patched up G5!!!
