View Full Version : Any problem with mounting Lumiquest products w/ velcro pads?

I'm slowly but surely gettin gout to check out the local camera shops in my area (so far, all of them in this city aren't really worth going to). But, one in this city happened to have a few lumiquest products, so I picked up a Pocket Bouncer.
Now, I'm curious about this thing. There is an option cinch strap which would, I'm sure, be the best way to mount this thing. But, for those of you that do use or have used lumiquest products, is there any real harm in mounting the velcro pads to the flash itself? Or is that a no no? Will it cause any problems with the flash? Will it drop the resale value?
Thanks in advance

I have two of the Lumiquest kits, and have velcro applied nice and neat to both my 420 and 550s. I'm not so worried about resale on the flashses (by the time I sell them the next flash after the 580 will be out, so they' won't have the same resale value as the lenses would anyways.)
I've really enjoyed the pocket bouncer products. If you get a chance, find the full kit with the case, silver, gold, white inserts and 80/20 bouncer. For around $35 I think it's a great tool!

Oh and as far as damage to the flash from putting velcro on them, I'd have to say that would be pretty far fetched.

The option cinch strap is a big elastic (rubber band) and it's a pain, really. Use Velcro. Worst you could do is leave some sticky adhesive on the flash, and Goo-Gone will fix that.

I have the Lumiquest "Mini Softbox" and attach it to my 550EX via velcro. No problems with it whatsoever. Yeah, I cringed at the thought of sticking velcro on it, but it was the best way to do it. No regrets.

At the end of the day your flash is a tool, and if you can enhance it to make ti do a job better then it becomes, and upgraded tool
Velcro upgrade next?

I just applied the velcro.
Most adhesives will come off with some type of solvent and not hurt the plastic. So if for some reason down the line I could remove the velcro and then use something like alcohol to remove any residual adhesive.
But like it has been said before, by the time I get to the point I won't use this flash it will either be obsolete or broken :)
