Can someone please explain to me why photos printed on Glossy HP paper in April '04 are fading badly. Those printed on HP Bright White paper at the same time are not affected. Both paper types occupy the same place in the room and are not in direct sunlight. I use a HP Printer and original HP ink. Can I spray something on glossy paper to stop fading?

Go to your local craft supply store and ask for Krylon Preserve it. Krylon does have a few products that do the same thing. Here is one. http://www.krylon.com/main/product_template.cfm?levelid=5&sub_levelid=8&produ ctid=1732&content=product_details

It never hurts to put your print behind the glass of a frame.

I let mine air-dry for about a day, then put them into a frame.

Many thanks for the tips. I am in the UK and the only reference I can find to Krylon seems to be connected with paint for bathroom and kitchen walls!!
No doubt I will find something. Thanks again

Your reason for the fading is the HP printers use dye based ink. The dyes fade miserably.

Look in an ART SUPPLY store, not a hardware store, for the Krylon (or other brands) preservative.

Thanks for that Pete. Maybe I should look at an Epson printer?

Peek around in the printer forums. You can find out what the general opinions are. I picked Epson just because of the archival pigment inks. I didnt want to sell people pics that would fade out in a couple of years. HP and Canon have both made improvements in ink permenance, but dye ink is still (fading) dye ink.

I can tell you dealing with the Epson company is a pain! AT the other end of the phone you can get a complete idiot to someone semi-knowledgable, but if its out of warranty, forget it! I even had to fight to get an in warranty printer replaced. I've learned my own maintenance by trial and error, so both of my 2000P's stay running.
