Okay so I couple weeks ago I posted a link to some cheap macro rings (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2325) and they fiinally came in today!

These things are a hell of a lot more sturdy than I thought they would be. I was thinking I would have to be holding the lens the entire time. They're made of aluminum and are extremely light. Here are some pictures of the rings:

Here is my camera with the rings on and my 28-135 (sorry for the camera phone, only other camera I have :lol:):

A shot without the rings:

And the same subject with the rings:

And of course, the money shot:

Definitely worth the $10. Now I just need to buy a steadier hand or a tripod. Have fun!

I've got a set just like these. I have an old Pentax-M 50mm f1.7 lens mounted on mine which is great as it has a manual aperture ring. The quality of shots is far better than I could have hoped.

Not sure if you are aware or not but if you set your preferred aperture in Av mode, hold down the DOF preview button and dismount the lens - it will keep the aperture setting which is quite handy.

I did know about the DOF preview trick but I completely forgot about it. I'll try that out now.

Good shots - I too have used a manual ext tube set up with an old pentax manual 50mm lens on the end - worked extremely well.

I have a question about extension tubes. If you notice on the macro version of the knife there is fringing from the reflection of a window. Do tubes make the problems with lenses show up more?
