The second Top Hat series test day at Goodwood gave me the opportunity (excuse?) to dust off three of my longer telephotos and give them a test before the track season proper starts. As one of the culprits I thought I'd post some here to give some alternative to the parade of Robin Hood threads ;)

#1 This big old Jag takes some manhandling around the corners

#2 A pair of ickle ones!

#3 It was a bit cold and breezy for open cockpit work

#4 Alan Mann racing colours but I don't think it is an original car

#5 You don't see many of these around UK circuits

#6 Pretty Lotus Cortina

Thanks for looking!

Lovely shots, Glenn. That number 5 is an impressive beast, what is it?

Our American cousins will rapidly put me right if I am wrong, but I believe it is a Chevrolet Corvette C1. The pre-"Stingray" model.

I like that first shot of the Jag a lot Glenn. The positioning in the frame really appeals to me with the track disappearing into the background. Great stuff!

Simon.

Very nice shots. I love the Lotus Cortinas and the Jag.

Seeing your images just keeps telling me I need to save for some more reach in my glass but I could never get to 600mm, it looks like you can stretch out touch the last two :D

Yep, quite correct. One of the forgotton Corvettes in many ways as the Stingray has somewhat taken a lot of the limelight.

One of the interesting features was that some of these had fuel injection, and was one of the earliest deployments of fuel injection in petrol engined road cars.

The 600mm is something of an indulgence. It's not the most wieldy toy either. The Sigma 500mm f/4.5EX HSM is a nice compromise being both a more reasonable price and a lot easier to handle.

For those that are curious about such things the first two are the Sigma 120-300mm /f2.8 EX HSM on the EOS 1D Mark II, the second pair were with the Sigma 500mm f/4.5 EX HSM and the Mark III. The final pair were with the Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS USM and the Mark III.

Its no wonder you have back problems after carting all that around. Maybe you need to invest in a donkey.

 That might have something to do with it. I don't normally have all of them with me since there aren't many venues where I need the 600mm AND the 500mm. It is normally one or the other. I was using Goodwood as a test day to make sure the lenses were all working OK after the long winter lay-off and hence I had them both along.

Nice!
#3, I haven't seen one of those in decades!
