I have a Rebel XTi and I know that I can shoot in RAW. The only problem is,I haven't done this yet and would like to try. I use CS2 for my editing and was wondering when I open up my RAW photos, where will it be listed in RAW format? I hope that I am not confusing anyone. I am just confused on if there is a different way to edit and/or open RAW format photos?

RAW images need to be opened in Adobe Camera Raw (or another converter) before opening. Photoshop will do this automagically for you.

This is if you want to open RAW files in CS2.
scroll down to CS2.

Camera Raw 3.7 update
This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 and 5.0 software. Visit the Camera Raw page for a complete list of supported cameras.

Important notice:
Read the following installation instructions carefully. Incorrect installation will prevent Adobe Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw 3.7 from reading raw images correctly.

Support for the following cameras has been added in this update.

Nikon D40

Pentax K10D

Please refer to the following ReadMe files for other updates in this version:

Camera Raw 3.7 ReadMe

Camera Raw 3.7 ReadMe (Chinese, Japanese, Korean)

The Camera Raw 3.7 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS2, versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 4.0, or versions of Premiere Elements earlier than Premiere Elements 3.0. The latest version of the Camera Raw plug-in available for Photoshop Elements 3.0 customers is Camera Raw 3.6.

Assuming that you have the proper camera raw update in CS2.

Open CS2

file->open (or) cntrl+o search for the raw file you wish to open. Then open the image. Now a different window will open up within CS2.

On the right you should have your histogram at the upper right and below the histogram you will have your settings section.

There should be a row of tab like so ADJUST/DETAIL/LENS/CURVE/CALIBRATE

Navigating through those tabs and adjusting the image to your liking is how you will edit you RAW file. Now on the bottom of the window you have your work flow options. SPACE, SIZE, DEPTH and RESOLUTION. From there you can convert your raw file to either a TIFF file, JPEG file and so on. 8bit-JEPG 16bit TIFF Image size and resolution are all up to you to decide. Once you are done editing the image save to to the proper destination and you are done. Now you can also edit multiple images as well in RAW.

I hope this helps you out. I have the Martin Evening CS2 book, i just looked at it and explained how the window is setup. It should be accurate.
