like i said i'm a neophyte when it comes to taking photos... so i love the feedback... i think i get close... but i'm a perfectionist

so here's another that i'd love your comments on..

Very nice. Way to capture the Heron in flight. A real chance shot and the colours are beautiful as the sunset colours always are.

Like the shot, but you wanted some comments, so here we go:
- on my screen the pic shows a dark banner all accros the trees
- i think the picture needs some sharpening as well
- it looks like there is some moire on the water, especially on left. See http://www.fredmiranda.com/MR/index.html how to remove it with an action of Fred Miranda
- feed the bird some extra fish; without it the picture would be less in quality

Keep shootin'

Hello again,

A very pleasant shot, Boe.

On my modest 14" screen I can't see the banding or
moire that Henk speaks of.
[ I have a 17" screen but it hurts my eyes. ]

You have done a lot of things right.
eg Placing the horizon low, which is usually
but not always where to put it in sunset shots.
Actually some foreground could still have been cropped off and
a little extra added to the top of the image.

With a bird in flight it's hard to get everything right,
like keeping the horizon level. You've done that.

Only small point is that the bird is rather too
near the center of the composition.

Off to one side, obeying the Rule of Thirds would perhaps
have made for a more balanced photograph.
I just feel that I want to move the camera to the right
so that the bird is flying into the scene.

If you wanted to keep the sun centered, I might have
taken the shot a second sooner, or waited for
another second and got the bird not right
in line with the setting sun.

Still, a very pleasant shot. You have a good "feel"
for a good photograph.
Like the Porttownsend one, it's only a matter of a
few degrees between right and not quite right.

Kind regards
eland

this picture was taken off the front roof of our house... and the heron was just by chance.... the band you see is the power lines that i tried to hide in the dark trees... i just forgot to "take them out"

i agree with you eland... about the center of the pic but i had to take the pic when i could...

thanks for the input guys... i'll keep working on all the suggestions you have given
