Hey - just a quick question - is it worth buying a 10-year old Canon EF 100-300mm Ultrasonic zoom lens f1:4.5-5.6? Thanks

Probably if its in good shape. they still make this lense and I dont think it has changed in the last 10 years, some advantages over the 75-300 are slightly better optics, ring type USM wth full time manual focusing and the front of the lense doesnt turn.

Most canon EF lenses are very reliable. They tend to die only when they go 'swimming or flying'
The 100-300 is a particularly good one (among the consumer lenses anyway)
You'll be very happy with it i'm sure.
I deal in 2nd hand photo gear so i've had two of that model. They were both much nicer (and sharper) than any of the five 75-300's i owned. :)

There is a review of this lens that I read recently here http://photonotes.org/reviews/ef-lenses/ towards the bottom of the page. It may be helpful.

It depends on what you are going to use the lens on. I have the 100-300 (it was my first long zoom after I bought the Rebel G) and I've always found it to be very soft, even stopped down. You would be better off buying a used 70-200 4.0L if you can find one.
