Don't know if this has be asked before or not, has anyone tried the new Canon PIXMA™ Photo Printers, and if so what do you think about them? I see that they have a wireless one, and they have a dual paper try, kind of nice to just leave your photo paper in one tray.

looks like there is 4 brand new ones in this series and they seem to be pretty high end.

From what I have seen.. they are not any better than the i960 or i9900... (fewer inks etc...) what they do is add more "gadgets" ...

For a serious user the i960 and i9900 remain Canon's best offerings..

But for anyone who wants a printer they can print from directly (no PC invlved) the Pixma's would be the obvious choice.

To my eyes these printers were released to compete directly with the Epson and HP midrange gadget laden offerings.

P.S. the i960 does at least have the 4X6 paper cartridge thingamajig... so you can switch from 8X11 to 4X6 in an instant.

Ooops.. I stand corrected..

Your link has "Pixma" rinters I had not seen yet.. the 4000 and 8500 look like they at least rival.. if not superscede the i960...

The "Pixma" ones I had seen were decidely less capable than these newer models..

Another note.. here in the US Canon has decided to repatedly deprive us of there "R" modified printers.. these printers availble in Europe are based on the same models we have here .. but they have an additional suffix that indicates it has an auxiliary feed tray that will allow direct rpinting on CD-R and DVD...

I have long been bummed that we can not get either of the printers in the US or an adapter that would convert them.

One of the new "Pixma" printers HAS the "R" suffix.. (ip4000-R) so my hopes were high.. but on reading the details it makes no mention of the capacity to print to CD-R or DVD :(

Odd... :?

Yup those are the ones I saw, I love my i960, but I didn't know if the 8 inks were any better or more archival. :?

Actually, one can mod a US version by doing the software, and then buying the tray on Ebay. I am considering a used 6000D or a new 6700 for this very thing. The issue is that Epson has the rights (or something) to do it. I just won't buy an Epson.

I just got a iP4500 which is a new 3 color plus photo black and text (pigment) black printer. I am replacing an i860 which I was very pleased with until it began to wear out.

My first response to the printer is that it is very good. Photos are superb and (like all of Canon's 5 color models) it also does a good job as an office printer. I need to get double duty from the machine.

I asked a Canon Rep and was told this was because Epson had a copyright on the CD Printing thing here in the US. Don't know when if ever we will get those but it sure would be nice.
