This shot was taken on Friday, September 7'th in Laguna Beach, CA. I converted to Sepia because it fit the style of the life guard station. This shot was taken with my 20-35 at 20. I have been practicing using the full frame without cropping to help develop my photographic technique.

Hi Paul. Nice shot - I like the B&W version very much.
(Not a pure grayscale, is it? Looks toned to me. Might be time to calibrate my monitor again... )
I'm a beginner to all of this so take my comments with a couple grains of salt (or, in this case, sand :) ), but my eye wants to see less of the foreground cement path and more of that cloudy sky. Just my 2 pesos.
Cheers,

Cheers,
Thanks for the reply. It is a sepia toned pic. Don't mess with your monitor on the strength of this picture. I am a beginner as well, kind-of... This is my second start at photography. The first was 25Y ago when I was a teen.
The lens that took this shot is brand new and my widest lens ever.
My recollection from my youth is that if you hold the focal plane parallel to a set of lines, the lines won't be distorted, or they won't be distorted as much. I tried this technique in this shot. The plane of focus is parallel to the plane made by the right and left edges of the building. In short, the lens was parallel to the ground because the building is at right angles to the ground.
Using this trick, the only way to get less ground would be to take the picture from a higher vantage point. So, I can crop before I print. This image might look good in a square crop, that could take care of the whole thing. I presented it full frame because I endeavor to improve my photo skills and am trying to do all my crop and frame in camera.

I really like the colour one. I do agree with cropping. Just above the concrete in the foreground but not the boardwalk as it definately adds to the variety of colour.
Maybe play with the greens a bit to bring out the colour of the water. Like I said though, maybe. :)
I actually tried it myself but cannot embed the photo to show you. It came out pretty good except I put too much green in the ocean. I also brightened it up a bit and turned up the contrast by +3.
Gee, wish I could show you.
Matbe someone would be kind enough to embed it for me? :D
