Mac at home, Windows at work. Funny thing is--don't ask me which keys are shortcuts because my fingers know immediately which ever system I'm on, but my head doesn't and I use them all the time and I know they're different on each system! I chose Mac though as that's my OS of choice.

Using one of each is a little rough. I have my Mac on the right side of my desk, and the Windows computer for work on my left. You close windows differently, copy and paste differently.... its a little bit of a pain some times.

This is an extremely important poll... now just get into the spirit of it and vote! :D:D
I use Vista at home, and at work I use a mixture of Sun Solaris, Unix, Linux, various incarnations of Windows and we also have a couple of Macs as well!

Mac for all personal and school use, Windows (Parallels) for statistical software only (hopefully the next release of Minitab will have an OSX version).

Does anyone know where I can download Zoombrowser for mac? Or any other program that allows me to view the points that my camera focused on when it took the picture?

Zoombrowser is for Windows. On the Mac side we get ImageBrowser. I do not know if it can tell you your focus points. It should have come with your Canon camera (as well as DPP if you bought a DSLR).

wow, close race for mac vs pc. :-).
Not too surprising, actually.
Mac had a reputation for a long time of being the platform of choice for anything to do with graphic arts.
Also, the Mac fan boys have a well-known underground network; so they crawl out of the woodwork everytime there is a poll!
(Just kidding here guys... take it easy.)

I was using DOS, then Windows 3.1, then Win95 then Win98, then win2000[for short time], then up to WinXP till now [not looking for Vista at all].
And now i use Mac [about 5 months ago], but still i keep using my PC, so i don't know what to choose [i prefer Mac over Windows] so i want to choose Mac but i use both OS anyway.

I am on lovely windows Vista and not happy with it............I am about to push the purchase button for a new imac and have hopes to move as much over to mac as possible.
Are blue screens possible on Mac?
cosworth
16th of March 2008 (Sun), 17:11
Yes but they aren't blue.
it might be a lot cheaper for you to find out what is going on for you. Macs have their issues too.

Once again... you do see that much :D
I just switch from Vista/XP to Leapord. I do tech suppport for Vista/XP and got tired of all the issues. I dont know anything other than Leapord so I can compare it to anything, but so far Im happy.

again, i am not a pro or expert or tech, i was using Windows not so long [from 1995] since Win3.1 up to WinXP, when i got Mac i seldom use Windows these days, even i am still working with OS Tiger and not upgrading my Mac to Leopard and i am very happy with it over my Win anytime, i know i keep using my Windows for MS Office and many PC games, but Mac is smoother and less issues and faster, so i don't need to think more to upgrade my Windows to latest version and faster machine.

I have never used mac other than for one hour or so once when I was a sys admin. I was trying to install a network driver and it just didn't work for me (or the MAC user). So I can't really give comparison based on real experience with it. I am and have always been a PC user. From the old days of DOS and DrDOS.
Having said that, my opinion regarding why MACs might be better is because:
- Standards based hardware. Apple tests and approves hardware and provides tested drivers for it. On the other hand PCs/Windows systems have to be pretty much compatible with any china/korea made hardware out there. Alway, any joe out there knowing 2 words of C++ starts creating custom drivers.
- Applications. Since there are a lot more applications, expecially freeware and trialware are available for PCs than MACs, more PC users install this stuff bogging down their machines.
- Users. This may be debateable for various groups, but to me, there is no 'perfect' software. If you left enough users play with it, they will find bugs. Windows market seems a lot more compatitive than MAC, so windows programs come out half baked. Also, since more users are using it, it is likely that more bugs will be found in the same software that is available for MAC.
- Base OS. I don't know much about prior MAC OS, but since the migration to Linux,,, Unix has been around for a long time. It has its own quirks but it works and is a lot more stable. One of the reasons is because it was never built for "Comaptible with world". As you add more compatibility functionality, you add more code and ultimately add more possible bugs.
I am not starting a war here but giving my views on why people may think PCs are good or bad and vice versa. In any case, each OS has it's own place. I have always been a PC user and most likely always will be (Linux might be an exception). It is fun to fire up MAC users but in the end what matters is what works better for the task at hand the user's knowledge, experience and comfort level.
