ooo they are cool cameras, lots of features in the kit!

have you not tried looking at the DSLR range bit further? get a 350d with the kit lens for next to no bucks!

check em out on ebay, you might find it will give better results and control, however i could be wrong :) whats your budget?

I have a Canon PowerShot Pro 1 (the one with the little L lens) and it is a great camera. A good choice if you don't want a DSLR.

both are very good! but the 350d with be more versatile with the ability to change lens and ultimate control in full manual mode.... plus you get that awesome sound when you release the shutter :D

Both are good and it really depends on the type of photography your interested in doing and how deep into gear you want to get. The S5 offers a lot of capability in a small, relatively inexpensive package. It is self contained, has quite a bit of manual control and is capable of taking some outstanding pics. The XT requires additional lenses, has more flexibility in the long run and in general will produce a higher quality image.

I would go with the XT - the S5 - while exceptional, is limited by what's already "built into" the camera. I mean you can get the lens adapter and add filters and whatnot, but it not quite as "expansive" as the XT.
I have the XT and I think it's a great camera all in all. I love my 30D more obviously, buttt I do like having my XT in tow for nights out.
