What's the experience you guys have had while using tripod for macro work. It appears to me that it might be difficult to get close to the subject using a tripod since the working distance for macro is so less.
Is it a better idea to use monopod from ease of use point of view (unless shutter speed is very slow in which case tripod is the only option) ? What kind of tripod/monopods you guys use for macro work?

The right type of tripod (such as the Gitzo Explorer (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=206491&is=REG) ) is essential for macro work, IMHO.

A monopod is not practical for macro work. At such close distances even the slightest movement shows. A good quality tripod is essential, and lots of practice will teach you how to carefully place it.
