First band shoot !

A friend of mine is in this band and last year I told him I'd be interested in photographing them live. I thought he'd forgotten about it but last week he called me saying they were re-editing a cd and needed new photos for the booklet, publicity, site, etc. Not live but posed, session and everything. I was very happy :D So, they are done, I send the ones they wanted yesterday for their album. Here are some of them, not the ones that will be on the album, but some of my favourites. Post processing was partly their choice. Sorry about the large watermarks, these were proofs. Thanks for looking, C&C always welcome.

I don't think any of them do. They were sure they didn't want anything like instruments or their rehersal place, so as not to give the garage band look they said.

Hmmmm, did you take photos of all band members seperately (like 1 - 2 - 4 - 5)? All "1 & 2-style" and "3 & 5-style" or are these 4 out of 5 selected photos? I like # 1 and 2, but # 3 and 5 seem to be totally different...

But then again, well done :)

I'm not sure I get what you mean, I kinda tried a couple poses for each member and when I found a pose or a setting that I really liked ( and so did they ) we shot other members there as well. These are selected from among others, sure. Thanks.

I prefer 1, 2, 3 best of this set...

In #4, the legs are spread too far apart and the guys are too far behind him. What are those things on the side? Air Conditioners? They need to be cloned out, too distracting... What do you think?

#5 seems too close...

Which lenses did you use and did you use a flash?

Thank you for your input. Johnstoy, now that you mention it, the legs really are a bit too far apart, but I wonder if he wouldn't look way too tall if he had them closer. You think they're too far ? Their feet are almost under the front guy, do you think they should be closer ? Yes, they are air conditioners, I kinda like them, they add to the background look imo, besides, if I cloned them out there would be a chunk of empty space. You can try it out and post it if you want of course. Lens: 18-70 and yes, I did use a flash.

I mean the "style" of #1 and 2 is a lot different from the style on #3 and 5. Did you make two series of portraits of the band members (one in style of #'s 1 and 2 and one in style of 3 and 5) or did you select only one portrait per band member (with 1, 2, 3 and 5 all being final selected photo of the band members on that photos)?

Well, I shot each one of them in a couple poses in various backgrounds. I didn't shoot all of them in all the backgrounds. Thanks roman_t. Here are a couple more if that's ok ;)

Some of these are really cool! Solid lighting for sure... a couple have the "I play all the big rooms in VAGAS" kinda feel though. haha not your fault :)
