Hello, new to the forum and have spent lots of time browsing. Just got an S5is, and really like it so far. My question is...is it ridiculous to buy the lensmate adapter purely as protection for the time being until I really need filters, lenses, etc. And does it affect the quality of the photos? I have read that some people say it causes vignetting, shadows from flash, etc. but I am just a casual photographer (right now). Thanks!! BTW am leaning towards the 52mm cause I dont have any filters or lenses right now.

I thnk the adapter should be on your S5 even if you never use a filter or add on lens. It protects the motorized lens as it moves in and out, gives you more to hold on to, and it alows you to use a standard snap on lens cap. I got the 58 MM, because I already had 58MM filters on hand, but I see no reason why the 52 wouldn't do just as well. You will get a shadow from flash if a hood is attached to the adapter, but not from the adapter alone.

Thanks Gary, I was leaning towards getting it anyway (besides, the adapter also looks cool...lol) Just was looking for a little confirmation.

I second just shootin. I have the 58mm from Lensmate and love it. I keep it on there for protection. I do have filters but even when they are off the adapter stays on. The snap on lens cap is great and you dont have to worry about the motor b/c the adapter comes out just a tad further than the lens. I also got the flexible hood from lensmate and there are major shadows when I use the flash but its helpful for outdoors.

Oh yea, and welcome to the forums. Its very informative here and addictive as well! Be sure to post up some pictures!
