looking at picking up the abr800. I was wondering if it is possible, since the ringlight uses the sync port, if it was still possible to fire the ST-E2 from the hot shoe? has anyone tried this? Besides going to pocketwizards is there any way to make my multi flash set up work with the ringlight?

I don't think it will work.
You could get optical triggers for your flashes, but they usually don't work well with canon flashes.

You could use both the sync port and hotshoe at same time, but the way the ST-E2 is mounted on the camera, front the ST-E2 is sticking out past the lens mount, possibly interfear with the ABR800 mounting. And the ABR800 will block the ST-E2's IR sensor.

Maybe with the off shoe cord, you can mount the ST-E2 pass the ABR with some sort of bracket?
