Here's a few pics from a track meet I shot yesterday evening. It didn't start until 4PM, so sunset and nightfall crept up on me quickly and I finally had to quit due to motion blur.

This was my first attempt at shooting track and field.

Nice DOF in all your shots but watch out for distracting backgrounds. #3, 4 are your best shots. Sharp and perfect focus. #6 could work if you were panning. When shooting the long jump, try to get head on so that you have a better background. Very good series for your first time shooting high school track.

pagnament, the long jump tracks were side by side and they were running the boys on one and the girls on the other. With the Sigma on a monopod, it wore me out trying to move back and forth betweeen jumps. I finally had to sit down, take a break and just shoot what I could. I had my back against the fence, so I couldn't move back any further and there were people everywhere!

I just try to shoot shallow and hope to background turns out fuzzy.
Yeah, I did try to pan with the beast on the stick (while laying on my side against the fence). I looked over at the track and the girls were warming up for their relay race, so I took a couple of shots, then turned my attention back to the jumps.

Thanks for the feedback. It was quiet a learning experience.

Good action shots, some of them have picked up the red reflection from the track, when this happens I put some blue in the shot when cropping and editing.
Would be interested to hear what other members do.
