Very nice black and white. I could see that hanging behind my couch. I like the first over the second. I would like to see a bit more detail in the water. Perhaps a higher ISO (400) and a shorter exposure time. Good work! How do you like new camera? Get the battery grip...much better feel and presentation to the camera!

the first is nice. I had a top floor room at the Tower Thistle (the steeped building just to the left of the bridge on your shot) a couple of weeks back and the view was awesome but....no camera :(

Both are nice, but I prefer the first.
My only nit is that the towers have lost all detail because of the lights. A slightly shorter duration would have left some detail there.
Otherwise a very good effort.

Thanks guys for the useful pointers, i will bear these in mind next time... I agree on all points raised and it's through constructive criticism that we better ourselves..
Retro, I am definately going to get the grip, it's just a matter of "when" really and not.. "if". I had an old eos 500n and i bought the grip for that too. Apart from the obvious enhancements of the extra battery/buttons etc it's amazing how much more steady you can hold the camera when there's a bit more weight to it :)
Will.

I like the first one, I agree with the "It could be behind my couch" comment, the towers look a little washed out though. Was that shot as a B&W? It definately has impact. But I am far from an expert but I do know what I like and I like the first. The reason I don't like the second is the big grey void in the lower right, it doesn't look right to me and I'm not really sure why.

Thankyou for all your comments, it's very helpful. Vert, I shot this in colour (my 300d doesnt have a B&W mode as far as i'm aware) and converted it to B&W in PS Elements. I upped the contrast a tiny bit too.
Will...

I cast my vote for the first. Night scenes are difficult.
