Yesterday I was taking pic's and the cam locked up, wouldn't AF? Cut off and back on, wouldn't AF, Removed the battery and reinserted. Everything fine. Took 2 more pic's and put the cam away. This was my 2nd lock up in 1200 shots. Not sure whats going on. Today I go out back to test a lens (18-55) and the cam lockes up. #$$%^ Bad language time. Turned off and back on, nothing, removed re-inserted battery, nothing. Change lens, nothing. More bad language.. Walking to the house I noticed the battery indicator was off? Yep the battery was dead, won't AF with no battery  Stupic battery I only got 512 shots off it:) , Hit self in head and get another battery. Ok back to the test, re-install 18-55mm lens and WHAT won't %$$@@$ AF. I quit, I had enough I'm gonna trash this stupid cam!!!                          evidently while changing the lens I turned that little switch on the side to the lens to manual
Wow, Now it works just like it did before I messed everything up! Now I wonder was my first lock up really a lock up?? or an operator error!
Note to self............. RTM Again!

Been there; done that.
In fact, I've done it so often it's now the number one thing on my mental checklist when things don't seem to be working right.
Glad you got it sorted out.

I almost always turn the lens switch to manual before putting the camera away. That way if someone should pick it up and try to screw the barrel to focus the camera it won't strip the gears in the autofocus. So I am used to turning AF back on.
