Howdy guys.
I love this forum, what a great bunch of people. Anyway...
I shoot with a D60. I really love it, but in low light, it has its drawbacks. I really need to invest in a new camera. Of course, I would love to get a 1DS, but its out of my pocketbook league.
I have seen so many postings about problems with the 20D (shutter stick, programming problems, warranty issues...) I'm hoping that these are not prevalent, but it does make me wonder.
Are the differences in speed and noise reduction at higher ISO's really noticable?
My business shoots kids sports (with L series lenses and 550 flash on bracket), and on location portraits of kids/families. Sr. Portraits etc. I would love to get a better picture (noticably less noise) in low light.
What do you think??

I added a 20D to my D60. Yes, it's worth it. For the speed (both start-up and frame rate), and for the performance.

Not everybody has problems with the 20D.
Mine was perfect straight out of the box and also after the firmware update.
It performs outstandinglingly at high iso settings, especially with
fast lenses, but also for example with 70-200 f4,0 at concerts.
Very highly recommend it.

It's worth it. I am a film shooter primarily, but the 20D is the first really convincing camera that is steering me towards all digital.
If you are considering a new digital, go play with it and give it a try. You'll be amazed at the images right out of the camera. I shot a whole wedding with it and only used photoshop on a handful of images that I incorrectly exposed. The camera performed fantastically.

Go pick it up right now!
I've not had any problems. Personally I think that the percentage of people that did have problems was very, very small in relation to how many 20Ds were purchased overall. You know, it's that negative thingy... we always here more of it that the positives.
Fast, fast and fast. Incredible...really. :D
Enjoy!

There were a handfull of problems in the beggining, but it appears as if they have all been sorted out.
Focusing problems are more of a manufacturing defect then a common issue.
So buy with confidence

I just purchased the 20D. Still have my 10D. Mine came with Firmware 1.04 and so far so good. I've been away so I haven't upgraded to 1.05 yet but it's been flawless. I can't believe how well high ISO shots come out straight out of the camera.

I have one and have not had a single issue with mine. I also have a D60 as a backup. It is well worth the money...Dean

I'm like you. I didn't consider the 10D to be enough of an improvement to move up from my D60.
My 20D is now on back-order.
The improvements that I consider important for sports shooting are the quick start up or wake up time, the better, faster auto focus, the better high ISO-low light performance and the faster frames per second. Just about all of my criticisms of the D60 have been improved upon.
Now that the first batch of D20's has been shipped and sold the next shipments should have any little bugs worked out.

No problems with mine and the 1.05 firmware. It is sooo much faster and more accurate than my 10D or wifes rebel. I like the smoother higher ISO as well. Very happy with it so far.

I upgraded from a D60 and I have absolutely no regrets. I can only think of one thing I miss about the D60 and that's the ability to change ISO with the SET button. Other than that, the 20D is a great camera. As to "all the problems" - those experiencing problems are likely to voice their complaints, and often loudly, unlike those of us who have had no problems. It's my opinion that the "problems" have been grossly overstated and there are far more satisfied 20D owners than you'll ever hear from.

I have two of them and love them....I had a battery eating problem with one but after putting in the new software, no problems. They enlarge like crazy.....this camera is a winner. Even the guy at B&H told me not to get a MarkII becasue the 20D is so good for much less money. My 550 EX flashes work a lot bettter with the 20D.
