I redid this for a little different take. It lacks composure, but it does show bleakness.

It doesn't look bleak to me. Perhaps if you drop the exposure by 1/2 stop. Or it could be my monitor.

The thing that bothers me more is the tree on the right cut in half. I would like a lower aim point for the camera. Not enough foreground.

Can't do that as I cropped out a chain link fence. :)

I don't know what the first version looked like, but this one looks under-exposed, which makes me really wonder what was meant above by "dropping the exposure by 1/2 stop".

I would say that you might get something that looks more like snow if you go at least that much in the other direction in order to get a higher placement. In other words the snow looks gray - not like snow.

Bleak = dark and foreboding; the tail end of a storm just as the light wanes, where the snow would be gray.

It is during a Michigan snowstorm, when everything looks dark and foreboding.
The sky looks like it's part of the foreground.
There are some dark places but no white places, just an abundance of gray.

Armed with that "feeling" Robert, would you still suggest to boost the exposure and make the snow appear white?

I'm thinking that it would ruin the mood.

Opinion?

I'm just not sure.

Absolutely not!
I did not realize that you were giving it this exposure in order to faithfully render the mood that you saw in reality. Do you suppose I composed my critique without reading your text?

Ahah! ;)

You couldn't have known what was in my memory Robert. I was merely trying to get into your mind so I could figure out what makes a decent image.

You and others within these pages have brought my skills a long way and I am very grateful. I questioned your C&C for selfish reasons, I want to learn. I absolutly mean't no disrespect.
