This Mayfly Nymph shot was taken yesterday after collecting it from a very small tributary of the River Teifi near Llandusyl. I believe the species is Ephemera danica and its body is approximately 25mm long (excluding the appendiges); the shot was taken using an EFS 100 f2.8 lens and MR-14EX flash whilst the nymph was swimming around in a shallow container of water.
C& C welcomed.

I think a Pheasant Tail would be a good choice to match the hatch. 25mm is HUGE, so maybe a size 10. :)

Hi Mark
Thanks for the comment.
I used a pucker kick sampling net on a training course run by the Riverfly Patnership and couldn't believe how many invertebrates finished up in the net after a three minute shuffle. Three minutes being a 'standard sample'.
Have a few more that I'll post when I get a minute!

Nice illustrative shot and would fit in any identification book. Well exposed shot. ;)

If I had your email address I'd be happy to add you to my circulation list for my 'Fly Of The Day' that I send out from time to time to fly fishing friends - naturals and imitations.

The Riverfly Patrnership sampling kit is about £70 & that includes a discount.
I've used a pond cleaning net with some success and you can pick these up for a few pounds.
