Can anyone tell me where to buy Canon's standard off-white paint to retouch minor scratches and blemishes on my Canon lenses? I've seen this question asked a couple of times before, but never seen a good answer.
Considering how much a couple of my lenses cost, I'd really like to keep them looking like they haven't been through the war in Afganistan or Iraq. Any information would be appreciated.

Its not paint (powder coat or enamel or somesuch) so you have no chance.

You could take the lens to an automotive paint shop and get them to colour match some enamal paint.
Any decent panel beater will be able to give you some in a small tin, and most automotive paint supply shops can now give you some in a spray can.
Its not cheap, but its a bargin compared to the cost of an L lens.

:) I was just about to recommend the same thing!
Auto panel repair shops are ideal for what you want. They have the skills and the high quality paints and wouldn't charge much for a small tin (of course most of the cost is in the mixing)
The last time i asked such a thing they quoted about us$15-20 i think
Just tell them what it is for-you'll have no option of baking the paint so you'll want whatever is toughest without baking

Maybe I should use that paint on my kit lens and see if anyone notices.

I think you should just treat those lenses as you should. Very delicately. If you get a scratch then keep it there as a reminder for how carefull you need to be.

Some of you certainly have an interesting perspective. It must be my conservative midwestern upbringing, but I don't need battle scars on my lenses to remember my adventures, I have my pictures. That is what it is all about anyway.
I worked my kazoo off (shooting weddings, senior and family pictures) to buy a couple of my L lenses (70-200IS, 600IS) and my 1Ds, and I want to take care of them as best I can so they will shoot properly and retain their value. That's hard these days as quickly as things change. Not that I'm a prissy, because my stuff goes through the woods and up and down mountainsides (check www.WmWiley.com). But I worked too hard to get it to not keep it as best I can. Besides, it's a thrill to own the Rolls Royce of camera gear - Canon makes the best there is these days.
