Opinions on tamrac (specifically the 5275 expedition)

Just want to know what you guys think of the quality, capacity , etc. I might buy one soon online, but I have never seen them in person. And I trust you guys ;-)

I was looking into getting a backpack myself too, for my new 300D and lenses. I've come to the conclusion of getting myself a 5275 sometime in the future. I will save up for a 75-300mm IS first (and I can see that you have one too). :D

The Expedition 5 is a great pack for 1 or 2 bodies and a couple of lenses, flash, batteries, etc. It's made very well. I use it alot.

I have the Expedition 4 (a little smaller). I'm very pleased with the quality - well made, durable and water resistant. I wish it were a little larger ... should have purchased the "5".

Thanks guys! I have a line on one from canada, so it is a good deal for me. I guess I might as go ahead and get it so I can avoid all the extra catches when buying new or from the us.

I'm curious. What advantages does this particular bag have over the MiniTrekker or the CompuTrekker (only the camera side)?

Hi:

I'm in London (not too far from Guelph), and I recently bought this backpack to carry my DRebel, 70-200 F4 L, kit lens, 50 F1.8, 420EX flash, and soon the 135 F2 L ( :D ) It has A LOT of space, much of which is configurable. Now, this thing is huge and has a pocket for a laptop which I sometimes use. With the laptop, it is HEAVY, but still not too bad. Lots of little pockets for flash memory, power-supply, and stuff. I even carry my trusty old G1 in one pocket!!

All in all, a great, well-built, backpack. I purchased this online from a place in Montreal for $120 CAD.........a good deal.

Where did you purchase it from? The guy is asking $125, which is ok for me. If I buy at BH then I have currency conversion, taxes etc. In the end I will save 50-60 dollars.

I hear ya Tom. I have one of those little square bags about a 1' long, 8" high and 6" wide.

In that bag I manage to fit my 300d, 20 f1.8, EF 75-300, EF-S 18-55, Sigma 500DG Super, Minolta film body with attached 28--80 lens, couple rolls of film, tripod quick release plate, lens cleaner, optical slave, a stofen, extra batteries and a couple remote triggers.

I have to pack it in very precisely to get it all to fit and then not everything is very accessible.

I bought the Expedition 4 and found out immediately it was too small. Now I'm getting a laptop, so the CyberPak 6 should do well, as it's considerable larger. Always buy larger than what you think you need, because bags always seem on the small side. If there's no wiggle room, then getting things in an out is a pain. (true for most backpacks, but backpacks are also the most indiscrete and easy to carry)

My favorite part about Tamrac are those two rings at the top of each side...stick each ring through am extra sturdy coat hanger, stick the coat hangers in your hall closet...bam! A forward facing camera bag at arms' level. And far out of the reach of toddlers!

Probably none - they're very similar. I could be mistaken, but I think I recall someone saying that the Tamrac is better with regard to water resistance (I don't know if that means design or materials).

I had the 5275 for awhile but needed space for the laptop so I traded up for the 5259 Cyberpack 9. Both are outstanding packs...

Tamrac Expedition 5 has arrived!

It is about 2-2.5 times the size my old bag and it is alread full!!! I had things so well packed into that little square one! It is well made, easier to cary and there is definitely more room (I can still squeeze some more gear in it). I am definitely happy with it; although, I may need to get an addon lens case if I buy another lens ;-)

Thanks for all your suggestions. The bag is indeed well made like you guys said. It is alittle smaller than I imagined but I am very happy with it.
