This is from a set of senior pictures that I did. It was so cold outside so I shot this is the lobby were the elevators are to keep out of the elements.

I'm not a people photographer but, I really like this one. Good composition. It does seem a bit soft, can you post the EXIF?

This is a little soft but I think the content (his smile) make up for it.

Um...I'll have to get back with you on that. But if I can remeber correctly I think it was f18 1/100sec and ISO 100? Like I said I get the exact settings. I was also using the Cannon Kit lens 28-135 not to make excuesses or anything. Thanks!

Hmm, can you explain a little more on what you were trying to accomplich? On the first two, the instruments are sharp but the person is a little soft. On the gentleman agains the wall, again, the wall behind him is sharper than your subject.

Again not to make excusses but I was shivering like crazy and no tripod. HA! I was experimenting with flashes in the elevator lobby for photos one and two. I wanted kill the overhead floresent lights and get an original portrait. At least that was the goal. Sorry there is really nothing too deep in meaning with the photos they are pretty superficial. Thanks!

Do you think that a different lens would have helped? Are "L" lenses much sharper?

They are extremely sharp when compared to non-L lenses.

I like the poses and composition on all three, i also like deep shadows on male portraits so for me the lighting works on 1 and 2.
Agree with previous posts that the focus misses the best target slightly.

Thanks for the comment. I'll make sure I'm on point next time.

I re-read my post. It is accurate, but comes across a little too harsh. I like the overall compositions a lot.
Re: glass, there are reasons that the price is significantly different, but with middle f-stops, they both can produce excellent images. In these photos it is my opinion that it isn't the glass as much as the autofocus setting that needs adjustment.

Great comment thanks. I didn't think that it was harsh. I'm a graphic designer I've developed a thick skin a long time ago. Its nice to get ata boy, but I'm really looking to how I can improve. So thanks you've helped.
