We needed a photo before she had our son. So we went out in my backyard and took this.

The contrast of her shirt and form certainly standout against the shade of the fence, but let's be honest here...that fence isn't the most attractive setting for capturing this important moment for you two. Besides your wife, try to complete the photo so that the whole scene reflects her state.
She has a wonderful glow.

What type of equipment and settings did you use for this shot? She looks very happy.

I totally agree with you and if I had all these options available believe me I would have used them. This was super spur of the moment and I like the beauty and ugly fence composition. HA! Thanks for the comment.

I wish I could could remeber the settings, but I put my camera on a tripod and set it for two seconds. Grabbed my silver reflector walked two steps camera right and directed the sunligh down. I like how the light falls off from her face to the ground. The wind was blowing a bit too so I lucked out with a light breeze blowing her hair back just a little. I'll find the exif and post. Thanks!

You mean there was not a chair in sight?;) Even leaning on a tree would have been more flattering and looked more comfy than that fence?

HA! I should show you my backyard. How about a trampoline? Would that be good? It's all I have back there.
